Dejounte Murray’s first season with the New Orleans Pelicans did not go as planned, and he isn’t making that a secret.

He only appeared in 31 games because of injuries and faced a number of personal issues.

In a new interview, he opened up about how hard it was.

“It was a situation where like, I got all these problems going on. Not only my mom, I broke my hand [and] I was recovering, my mom had a stroke. One of my cousins got killed. Then my uncle overdosed. And in the meantime, I’m not getting what I need in the organization. You can only imagine where my mental was at. I’m stressed, I’m mad every day, I’m sad, I’m angry, I don’t want to be there at that time. There’s so much going on,” Murray said, via NBA Retweet.

Clearly, Murray faced some adversities that no one should ever have to confront, and it had a serious impact on him.

For most of his life, basketball was a safe space and something he could turn to when obstacles were in his way.

But over the last year, it wasn’t saving him like it used to.

The hope is that things are a lot better for Murray and the Pelicans in the next season.

When he came to New Orleans, he was viewed as a crucial part of their lineup.

Sure enough, the team faced a lot of challenges when they lost him at the start of the season.

It sounds like Murray hit a personal low last season, and he is ready to move on.

The Pelicans are also ready to put 2024-25 behind them and have a much happier and productive season.
