After a disastrous 2024-25 season, the Philadelphia 76ers are ready to move on, and they will use their No. 3 draft pick to help make that happen.
According to new reporting from Johnathan Givony, via Evan Sidery, VJ Edgecombe is the “leader in the clubhouse” to be drafted as the No. 3 rookie in the draft.
“Edgecombe made a very strong impression during his workout and visit in Philadelphia earlier this month,” Sidery wrote on X.

Initially, Ace Bailey was the young player being targeted by the Sixers, but they were blown away by Edgecombe’s workout and what he brings to the game.
They are very fond of this three-point shooting, specifically, and they imagine him working well in a lineup alongside Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain, Quentin Grimes, Paul George, and others.
If their impressions of Edgecombe hold, he will soon be one of the most exciting and talked-about rookies in the class, heading to a team that desperately needs to get back on track.
It is worth noting, however, that Bailey will have a workout with Philadelphia later this week.
He has been getting mixed reviews from other teams, but can he change the Sixers’ opinion of him?
Edgecombe impressed during his time at Baylor, and he looks like the sort of player who is ready to get started in the NBA quickly.
That is exactly what the Sixers need because they don’t want to stay at the bottom of the Eastern Conference for long.
They desire someone young, driven, and healthy.
Edgecombe is all of those things, and he could slide into the rotation with ease.
Is this a done deal, or can someone else catch Philadelphia’s eye before the draft?
